On 24th June, Henry Poole & Co. welcomed guests to 15 Savile Row for An Evening with Henry Poole, held in association with the Royal Warrant Holders Association as part of our 220th anniversary celebrations.
Hosted by Simon Cundey and Keith Levett, guests were welcomed behind the doors of No. 15 to explore the House’s remarkable story, from its founding in 1806 to its enduring place at the heart of Savile Row. Through original ledgers, historic sketches, and archival garments, the evening traced the evolution of bespoke tailoring and the generations of cutters, tailors, and craftsmen who have preserved the House’s traditions.
Among the stories shared was Henry Poole’s long association with Royal Warrants, a defining chapter in the House’s history. In 1858, Emperor Napoleon III granted Henry Poole its first Royal Warrant, presenting the bronze Napoleonic eagle that still stands proudly in the shop today. Just over a decade later, in 1869, the House received a Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria, marking the beginning of a royal tradition that has continued through successive reigns and remains an integral part of Henry Poole’s heritage.
Guests also heard how the House has shaped the language of classic menswear itself, from dressing statesmen, royalty, and cultural figures to creating what became known as the dinner jacket, a garment whose influence continues to be felt around the world.
In the workshop, live tailoring demonstrations revealed the meticulous techniques that continue to define our craft today. Guests watched traditional handwork up close before trying their hand at using the shears themselves, offering a memorable glimpse into the precision and skill behind every Henry Poole garment.
Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed Pol Roger Champagne, Savile Row Gin, and a selection of refreshments while exploring our anniversary collection and sharing conversations that reflected the spirit of the House.
We are grateful to the Royal Warrant Holders Association and to everyone who joined us at No. 15 to celebrate this special milestone. It was a fitting way to mark 220 years of Henry Poole, celebrating not only our history, but the craftsmanship, friendships, and traditions that continue to define the House today.
