An evening organized by the Royal Warrant Holders Association (RWHA) was held at Henry Poole & Co. 15 Savile Row, on 19 July 2023. First granted a Royal Warrant in 1869 by HM Queen Victoria as Court & Livery Tailors, Henry Poole have created uniforms and liveries for every Coronation, Jubilee and State occasion since.
Mark Leishman, Chairman of RWHA, introduced the evening and thanked Henry Poole; he stressed the importance of British craftsmanship and how it should be protected and valued for the years to come.
Simon Cundey, Grantee & Managing Director talked about the rich history of the business, its relationship with Royal Warrants; and how Henry Poole & Co, in the finest sartorial bespoke tradition, is still today a family-owned business, now in its 7th generation.
Keith Levett, Director, engaged the audience with his story of Henry Poole & Co’s early history, putting it context with society at that time, and skillfully weaving numerous anecdotes. He spoke about Henry Poole’s involvement with the Royal Mews, dating back Queen Victoria. Keith Levett has made liveries for the Royal Mews for the last thirty-four years, proudly steering the company through its involvement in Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, her State Funeral, and the subsequent Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.
The event was held exclusively for Royal Warrant Holders, who enjoyed the evening chatting and looking at many historical documents and uniforms, as well as a recent display of projects and collaborations that Henry Poole has undertaken in recent years.
