We were delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor of Westminster, Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, to Henry Poole & Co., here on Savile Row, the historic home of bespoke tailoring.
The office of the Lord Mayor of Westminster has long played an important role in representing and supporting the civic life of the borough, which includes some of London’s most recognised institutions and what is often referred to as the Golden Mile. Today, the current Lord Mayor continues this tradition, actively championing local business, heritage crafts and the preservation of Westminster’s unique cultural identity.
During his visit, our Managing Director, Simon Cundey, had the pleasure of showing him around the shop. He was introduced to a wide selection of our cloths, alongside an insight into the history and background of the house, and our longstanding place on Savile Row. Meeting our cutters upstairs, he was able to see the early stages of the bespoke process and gain a clearer understanding of the precision involved at this point.
The visit then continued downstairs to the workshop, where he spent time with our tailors, observing the skill and care that goes into every garment we make by hand. It was a genuine pleasure to see such interest in the craft, and in the traditions that have been upheld here for generations. Having both our showroom and workshop under one roof remains central to what we do, not only as a place where orders are taken, but as a living expression of the craft itself. It allows clients to witness first-hand the expertise, precision and dedication that define bespoke tailoring, offering a deeper understanding of the process and a meaningful connection to the garments they commission.
Before departing, the Lord Mayor took the opportunity to try his hand at cutting, making a careful first cut into the cloth under the guidance of our team, a fitting conclusion to his visit.
We are always grateful for the support shown to Savile Row and to British craftsmanship more broadly, helping to ensure that the standards and traditions of this remarkable street continue well into the future.
