Henry Poole & Co are delighted that Westminster council have now introduced new planning rules for Savile Row making it harder for developers and landlords to force out smaller independent businesses.
As well as Savile Row, “Special Policy Areas” have been created for Harley Street, Mayfair, St James’s, Jermyn Street and Portland Place.
Helping to preserve the character of these historic areas they have been given a set of tight planning restrictions. On Savile Row new stores will only be allowed to open if they do not replace “bespoke tailoring uses”; “sell bespoke, unique, limited-edition or one-of-a-kind products”; and are “complementary to the character and function” of the zone.
