The Goodwood Revival celebration, Europe’s most important classic car racing event, takes place each year at the beginning of September.
It is a wonderful chance to see celebrated cars and drivers competing against each other on the Duke of Richmond’s famous estate, Goodwood. The dress code gives the participants and viewers a chance to step back in time and enjoy period costumes from the 1920s to the 1960s.
Last year Henry Poole & Co. were delighted to dress racing driver James Cottingham, in preparation for his Sussex Trophy race; this was covered by Kirby Allison’s YouTube Channel, as part of his exploration of the world of quality, craftsmanship, and tradition.
James Cottingham had a sporting three-piece suit made at Henry Poole & Co. in Harrisons worsted tweed. The suit had driving-style details, such as a square-fronted single-breasted waistcoat, and poachers’ pockets inside the jacket to accommodate the driver’s cap for example. The resulting suit was a timeless classic inspired by 1930s British fashion.
The five episodes of Kirby Allison’s series covered the ordering, cutting and fitting of James Cottingham’s suit, as well as featuring his company DK Engineering. The series also included interviews with other important figures at the 2022 Goodwood Revival, such as Aston Martin’s Marek Reichman, the Royal Automobile Club’s Ben Cussons, and the Duke of Richmond.
Goodwood Revival will take place on Friday 8th to Sunday 10th September 2023
