Introducing Henry Poole’s new GORE-TEX INFINIUM(TM) Travel Trench – inspired by our archives.
Drawing inspiration from our archives, the design of the Travel Trench is inspired by historic garments such as carriage and motor liveries, frock, morning and dress coats, taking elements from each of these historic garments to create a very modern, clean silhouette with subtle detailing such as the high waist seam and panelled back which accentuates a long leg.
Just as many of these historic garments were built to keep out inclement weather, the Travel Trench utilises GORE-TEX INFINIUM(TM) WINDSTOPPER(R) technology making the Travel Trench water resistant, whilst maintaining a high degree of breathability.
We realise it may be difficult for everyone to visit our London store to try the travel trench on. We will have samples with us when we are able to conduct trunk shows, but in the meantime, to help customers special order a coat, we have a guide that will help your choice.
The intended look of the travel trench is fitted, but you may wish to wear it roomier, with more drape. How do you envisage wearing the travel trench? For example a size 38” worn with a sweater fits a 38” chest beautifully: not too tight, nor baggy. However, if worn with a suit jacket or insulated down jacket it would be obviously become snug, so whilst still looking fantastic, would have less ease of movement. We therefore recommend going one size up if wearing over a suit and mobility is a priority.

We have 3 lengths available to order in each chest size; this helps keep the horizontal waist seam in proportion as well as the sleeve length and coat length:
Short — 5’5”/167cm to 5’8”/177cm
Regular — 5’8”/177cm to 6’1”/186cm
Long — 6’1”/186cm to 6’5”/198cm
Chest sizes available are 34” 36” 38” 40” 42” 44” 46” and 48”.
Included in the base price is a standard lining (available in navy blue, azure blue, racing green, burgundy and grey). Further fancy linings can be chosen for an extra charge of £100.
For the travel trench, we chose to use the best quality YKK zips throughout. The main zip is a waterproof 2 way aqua guard; the pocket and underarm zips are YKK lay flat concealed zips, so the tabs stay clean against the cloth and the zip itself is doesn’t take away from the clean seam lines.
Buttons are the same 2 hole horn buttons that are used in our bespoke suits.
Zipped pockets on the forearm are designed for items such as office security fobs or metro cards. Simply tap your arm on the security interface. Zipped breast pockets fit large smart phones- a plus sized iPhone with a protective case fits perfectly.
GORE-TEX INFINIUM(TM) WINDSTOPPER(R) technology is highly breathable, but rain can mean high humidity. The pit zips with YKK lay flat zippers are long enough to allow masses of underarm ventilation and can be worn half open without changing the silhouette of the coat.
The detachable storm tab can be kept in the breast pocket, but of course the coat looks at its best with the collar up and the storm tab fastened.
