A Family Business
For generations, the families of Poole and Cundey have maintained their presence in the tailoring world. James Poole made his way to London from Shropshire as a draper and his son Henry founded the most famous tailoring street in the world – Savile Row—in Mayfair, in the heart of the City of Westminster, London. The firm next passed to his cousin Samuel Cundey, who has been succeeded by a further five generations—to the present day. No matter how many times pretenders threaten the exclusivity and excellence of Savile Row bespoke, the first tailor of Savile Row, Henry Poole & Co, endures.
Poole’s fame in the tailoring world has led to generations of clients visiting the premises on 15 Savile Row to experience the pure bespoke tailoring process, which guides each individual from the taking of measurements for pattern cutting right through to the final fitting procedures.
Today, Poole’s tradition of bespoke tailoring is maintained by Angus Cundey and his son, Simon (pictured left). For a visual display of our story, please refer to our timeline for further history of the company.
